Zelensky invited Biden to organize trilateral talks with Putin’s participation

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky invited American leader Joe Biden to organize trilateral talks with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced on Friday, January 14, by the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.

“President Zelensky has proposed to President Biden – and we think it might make sense – to organize a trilateral meeting, maybe via videoconference, between President Biden, President Zelensky and President Putin. We are still waiting [ответа] from the Russian side,” Yermak said during a discussion in the Atlantic Council.

On January 1, former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said that the Russian special services have compromising evidence on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, because of which he seeks to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

On December 24, Yermak said that Vladimir Zelensky made an unsuccessful attempt to contact Putin by phone in 2021. According to the head of the Ukrainian office, negotiations between the two leaders will take place only when there is confidence that “the president of the Russian Federation is ready to talk and there will be a subject for conversation.”

On December 26, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov replied that the Kremlin was ready to discuss bilateral relations with President Zelensky, but would not communicate with him as a party to the conflict in Donbass.

On December 21, the President of Ukraine announced that he was ready to meet with Putin in any format. He noted that the dialogue can take place both with the involvement of intermediaries and directly with the leadership of Russia. According to the politician, Kiev is “not afraid” of talking to Moscow.
