Man arrested for shooting near Donald Trump charged with attempted murder

Two weeks after the attempted murder of Donald Trumpthe American justice system charged the suspect with three counts: “attempted assassination of a presidential candidate,” “possession of a firearm in order to commit a violent crime,” and “assault on a federal officer.”

Until now the Prosecutor’s Office had only accused him of illegal possession of a weapon and possessing a weapon with the serial number removed.

The man, identified as Ryan Routh58, was arrested on September 15 shortly after fleeing after US Secret Service agents found him armed near the golf course where the former president was staying.

On Monday, a federal judge ruled that Routh was a flight risk and a danger to the community.

Before a Secret Service agent saw him, Routh spent nearly 12 hours at the Republican presidential candidate’s golf club.

This was the second assassination attempt against Trump so far this year. Weeks earlier, on July 13, he had been shot in the ear while giving a speech at one of his campaign events in Pennsylvania.
