“Victories like this give you a lot of strength,” says Wolfgang Fiala, SV Guntamatic Ried’s sports director, about the 3-2 away win on Sunday in Amstetten. Ried were already 0-2 behind – goalkeeper Andreas Leitner had to get the ball out of his own goal for the first time in ten games. In the final phase, the Innviertel team turned the game in their favor with two goals. “The incredible away support from our fans in Amstetten was once again enormous. That sets us apart from all the other teams in the league. Something like that can release additional energy,” says Fiala. “I would like to thank you for this unique away support,” said coach Maximilian Senft.

Thanks to the important 3:2 away win, SV Ried will go into the home game against Rapid’s second team on Friday evening (8:30 p.m.) as league leaders. The Viennese are in a solid eighth place in the table with ten points from six games. “In terms of football, Rapid 2 has very high quality. The team is very strong on the ball and plays forward without worry. I assume that the young team will stick to their style of play,” says Fiala. The Viennese are certainly vulnerable defensively, Rapid 2 has already conceded twelve goals so far.

Use of Grosse questionable

The participation of offensive player Mark Grosse is questionable. The 25-year-old was ill and only returned to team training yesterday. Whether Grosse will be in the squad will probably only be decided on match day. Striker Saliou Sane underwent surgery on Monday for a slipped disc at Ried Hospital. The 32-year-old will be out for eight to twelve weeks. It is therefore rather unlikely that the German will make his comeback in the autumn.

The South African Antonio Van Wyk, who signed a two-year contract with SV Ried at the beginning of September, will land in Vienna on Thursday. Now the Red-White-Red Card has to be issued. Fiala hopes that the 22-year-old attacker will be able to start training at the end of next week. The South African has recently been keeping fit with Stellenbosch’s second team. However, a debut is not expected until after the international break on October 18th at the earliest.
