Downing Street ‘wine parties’ have been a regular during the pandemic

“Wine parties” during the lockdown were held at the residence at 10 Downing Street in London on a regular basis. Such information was provided on January 14 by The Mirror tabloid.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson regularly attended such parties and urged the staff of the residence to “let off steam” at them.

“Their popularity was so high that the staff invested in a £142 beverage cooler to keep bottles of white wine, prosecco and beer cool,” sources told the publication, which published a photo of the fridge being delivered via back door on Downing Street on December 11, 2020.

“Wine Fridays” were scheduled on the electronic calendars of about 50 employees from 4 to 7 pm each week, the sources added.

London police refused to investigate Johnson’s participation in parties on Downing Street in the midst of the lockdown. The event happened a long time ago, and there is no hard evidence of a violation of anti-COVID measures by the prime minister. At the same time, officers are ready to consider “substantial evidence” against Johnson, if any.

On January 12, Boris Johnson admitted to attending the party and apologized for it. According to him, he came to the event to “thank government employees”, and after 25 minutes he left it and returned to work.
