AfD and FPÖ want to work more closely together

FPÖ Club Vice Peter Wurm said that they wanted to “help in Germany” in order to “lead the course here, which was successful in Austria”.

Weidel and Wurm pointed out that their parties agreed, for example on Corona policy. “Especially in times of Corona, it is important that reasonable forces stick together,” said Wurm. Weidel said: “We both see ourselves as freedom parties.” In terms of pandemic policy, the AfD and FPÖ stand for a “free determination course” that opposes any vaccination requirements. Weidel announced that a delegation from her parliamentary group would travel to Vienna in the spring to visit the FPÖ.

The Austrian government has already announced compulsory corona vaccination, which will come into force in February next week in the National Council. Such a measure is currently being prepared in Germany, although the exact form is still unclear.

During the two-day retreat, the AfD parliamentary group board discussed the thematic priorities for the new year. The parliamentary group is in a “completely new situation” in that the CDU/CSU is by far the largest opposition group in the Bundestag, said Weidel. In the past legislative period, the AfD was the largest opposition force in the Bundestag.

Weidel and co-group leader Tino Chrupalla named a number of topics with which the group wants to distinguish itself: It is about the occupation of terms such as home, patriotism, friendliness to small and medium-sized businesses and social justice.
