The building with humidity, the unusual allegory that Javier Milei reposted to explain the increase in poverty

The parallel was actually raised by the Argentine economist David Mermelstein and was reposted by the President through his X account. “Brilliant allegory,” Milei added in his message.

Javier Milei’s message after the poverty data

The allegory used by Milei to explain the indices of poverty and indigence published by the INDEC was actually published by Mermelstein in your official account of X. There, the economist detailed: “Once upon a time there was an old building whose foundations had deteriorated over time due to increasing humiditywhich was avoided to be solved to avoid the costs of its repair and, on the contrary, was crudely hidden, covering it with Durlock coatings, posters of bad taste and other cheap accessories that lasted less and less – although they had very good marketing – and that, sooner rather than later, further damaged the deteriorated facilities“.

In his story, Mermelstein narrated how the building began to deteriorate, losing space capacity and “leaving out more than 40% of those who needed to stay throughout 2023”, in a clear allusion to the country’s economic situation. “At that time It became evident that, if this dynamic continued, “The building had no other destiny than imminent collapse, that is, becoming completely uninhabitable,” continued the economist.

“Finally then, a vote was taken and it was decided to call specialists “that they should not continue placing coatings on the humidity, but rather address the root causes so as not to reach complete collapse,” Mermelstein continued, in a nod to the November 19, 2023 ballot, in which Milei won over the Peronist candidate, Sergio Massa. Along the same lines, he continued: “After a thorough diagnosis of the breakdowns that were multiplying for decades, they got to work to remove all the patches and coatings, painfully exposing the cracks in each area of the building so that repairs can be made.”

According to the allegory, “due to these works, even more spaces became temporarily uninhabitable, going to 52% on average during the first half of 2024. The drama that had been brewing for decades was more painful than ever,” the economist exemplified in a clear reference to the poverty rate for the first quarter of 2024.

“The incentive for all those who need them is to know that at last it was decided to turn the continuous course towards the collapse that was brought and that, at least, an attempt is made to find another path that makes it possible to think of a building with healthy foundations, that does not Not only does it not collapse and house all its inhabitants again as soon as possible, but is also capable of supporting the construction of new floors for those to come”, concluded the story. Thus, Javier Milei decided to repost this message on his X account and added: “Brilliant allegory.”
