At 1:22 p.m., the Hargelsberg fire department was alerted to a farm because smoke was escaping from a wood chip bunker. According to initial investigations, the source of the fire was suspected to be inside the wood chip bunker, which was around two-thirds full. In order to get the situation under control, several fire departments were called in to provide support.
In addition to the Hargelsberg fire department, the fire departments from Hinterberg, Asten, Enns, Kronstorf, Raffelstetten, Hofkirchen im Traunkreis, Axberg and the technical train from Steyr were also in action. The Hinterberg fire department used a special suction device. A second one was requested by the Pinnersdorf Fire Department in Lower Austria, which meant the warehouse could be emptied more quickly.
The Axberg fire department was on duty with the height rescue group to support the respiratory protection teams.
