Behind the cyber attack on the Ukrainian departments are hackers associated with the intelligence services of Belarus. This was announced on January 15 by Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Serhiy Demedyuk.
“This group is engaged in cyber espionage and is associated with the special services of the Republic of Belarus,” he said in an interview with Reuters.
According to Demedyuk, the attacks that took place “were a cover for more destructive actions that take place outside the public eye.”
On January 14, the websites of several Ukrainian ministries were attacked by hackers. As a result, threats against the inhabitants of Ukraine appeared on the websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. The reports claimed that all the personal information of the inhabitants of the country was uploaded to the “common network” and all data on computers would allegedly be destroyed without the possibility of recovery.
Later, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, said that most of the Ukrainian state sites have restored work after a massive cyber attack. According to Yermak, Kiev is closely cooperating on this issue with the United States and Great Britain.
Then it became known that the United States was in contact with Ukraine regarding the hacking of the websites of Ukrainian ministries by hackers and offered to help in the investigation.
