Ex-Foreign Minister of Ukraine appreciated the US military assistance to Kiev

Additional military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $200 million from the United States will go to areas that do not solve the main defense problems of Kiev. This was announced on January 11 by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Konstantin Grishchenko.

“Many security experts point out that although this assistance is significant, it is provided for areas that do not solve a purely military problem,” he said on the air of the UkrLive TV channel.

The former Foreign Minister admitted that Ukraine has serious problems with air defense that need to be resolved, but the funds provided by the Americans cannot be used for this purpose.

“There is nothing to respond to the offensive of aviation, and so far there is no political decision to provide assistance in this particular area,” the ex-minister noted.

Grishchenko did not overestimate the assistance provided.

“This assistance is important, it allows you to free up resources in order to purchase more of your equipment, but it is limited in terms of areas and does not create a fundamental change in the paradigm,” he stressed.

Earlier, on January 12, it was reported that the United States, as part of “secret assistance” to Ukraine for $ 200 million, was going to transfer to it a radar system and marine equipment taken from the Pentagon. When exactly the deliveries will begin, it was not specified.

Prior to this, on January 10, CNN journalist Kylie Atwood said that the US administration secretly approved additional defense assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $200 million. According to her, the decision was made at the end of December 2021.

On January 8, the US State Department said that American military assistance to Ukraine is defensive in nature, but the United States may increase arms supplies if the situation on the border with Russia worsens.

Over the past seven years, US military aid to Ukraine has amounted to $2.5 billion.
