The strongholds of the parties in the 2024 National Council election in Upper Austria (preliminary final results): The FP is clearly the strongest force in the country, the VP loses first place in more than 250 municipalities compared to 2019.

Black break-in

Five years ago the People’s Party was in a celebratory mood. It came first in 412 of 438 municipalities in the 2019 National Council election. Little of this dominance remains: only in 156 municipalities in Upper Austria was it enough for first place on Sunday. “Respect requires accepting election results. But the fact that for the first time a right-wing populist movement emerges from an election as the party with the highest number of votes makes me very thoughtful,” says Stefan Krapf (VP), mayor of Gmunden, where the VP remains the party with the largest number of votes with 26.53 percent (-9.33). Only in Kaltenberg (50.11 percent), more than every second person voted for the VP. The decline in votes was also huge in this black stronghold, at minus 22.10 percent.
