In the western federal states and Lower Austria, the ÖVP still managed to defend first place despite heavy losses. Carinthia is a blue stronghold, all districts there are liberal.
In Upper Austria The ÖVP lost first place to the FPÖ. The Freedom Party came to 31.7 percent (as of 8:30 p.m. yesterday). The ÖVP came in by far in second place with 27.4 percent, the SPÖ came third with 19.2 percent.
In the Burgenland The ÖVP (28.7 percent) and FPÖ (28.9 percent) fought a close race, which the Blues won. The SPÖ remains in third place with 27 percent.
The FPÖ has in Carinthia achieved its best result with 38.7 percent, leaving the SPÖ (23.1 percent) and ÖVP (20.8 percent) far behind.
In Salzburg It was not the Blues, but the ÖVP who were ahead. The blacks have 31.7 percent, the FPÖ 28 percent. Behind them – far behind despite a small increase – was the SPÖ with 16.7 percent.
Also in Vorarlberg The ÖVP was able to defend first place with 29.4 percent – also with a loss. The FPÖ was able to make significant gains, coming in second with 27.5 percent, while the SPÖ only got 13 percent.
In NLower Austria The blacks took first place with 30.8 percent, just over the finish line. With 30.2 percent, the Freedom Party came second, with the Reds also in third place (19.7 percent).
In the federal capital Vienna The SPÖ retained its first place – with a small increase of 2.8 percent or almost 30 percent. The FPÖ gained a good eight percent, bringing it to 21.2 percent. The ÖVP lost seven percent and ended up at 17.6 percent. The Greens have to digest a drop of 8.7 percent to 12 percent, but remained just ahead of the Neos with 11.1 percent. The KPÖ came relatively close to the four percent hurdle with 3.8 percent.
