Despite attempts at resuscitation, the girl died in the helicopter on the way to the hospital, as the broadcaster France 3 reported on Sunday, citing the Bonneville public prosecutor. The child was reportedly vacationing in France with his family and taking part in a ski course there.
A man in his 40s drove over the five-year-old on Saturday when she was standing in line. He came at her at great speed and tried in vain to dodge, France Bleu quoted the prosecutor as saying. The man was taken into police custody and investigations into involuntary manslaughter were initiated.
As reported by France 3, the man is in a state of shock. After the accident, the member of the volunteer fire brigade provided first aid together with a doctor. The body of the five-year-old is to be autopsied on Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
