EU to hold three major summits in the coming months

The countries of the European Union (EU) will hold three major foreign policy meetings in the first half of 2022. This was reported by the French Foreign Ministry on Sunday, January 16.

The press release was published on the results of an informal meeting of the heads of foreign affairs agencies of 27 countries, which took place on January 13-14 in the French city of Brest.

Thus, on February 17-18, the leaders of the EU countries will hold a summit on relations with Africa. It is organized jointly with the African Union.

On February 22, foreign ministers will hold a meeting to discuss the role of the EU in the Indo-Pacific region, where the community is going to strengthen its presence.

On March 24-25, a summit will also be held to develop a “Strategic Compass”.

“In this white paper on European defense, the EU will analyze the global changes in world politics and the threats the EU is facing. It will also contain European guidelines in the field of defense and security for the period up to 2030,” the statement said.

On January 15, EU diplomat Josep Borrell and United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed by telephone the dialogue with Russia, the situation around Ukraine and confirmed their intention to coordinate on dialogue with Moscow.
