French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Sunday, January 16, called for the implementation of the principles of dialogue and containment in relations with Russia.
“In our approach to Russia, we share three principles: deterrence, continued dialogue and increased transatlantic coordination,” wrote the head of the French Foreign Ministry in his Twitter.
Earlier, on January 11, French President Emmanuel Macron, at a press conference with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the republic was in favor of maintaining a dialogue with Russia in order to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. The French leader indicated that the goal is to create a common security architecture. Macron also expressed the opinion that the Normandy format remains relevant.
On January 10, the Kremlin commented on the conversation between Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation, and colleagues from Germany and France on Ukraine. The very fact of communication on the Normandy format in Moscow was called positive, but noted that there was no progress.
