The body of Canadian Michael Krift was discovered by the rescuers of the Erciyes ski resort in Turkey. He served as head of the coordination group of the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs in Gaziantep, local publication Hurriyet reported on Sunday, January 16.
“The body of a person caught in an avalanche was discovered during searches conducted by teams at a temperature of -25 degrees. The deceased was Michael Krift, a Canadian citizen who worked in Gaziantep as a UN coordinating member.
Krift and two other people came to the city of Kayseri from Gaziantep to go skiing. In the valley of Hisardjik Kapi, they fell under an avalanche. Search and rescue teams set out to search after reports of an avalanche and three skiers. They rescued two people and proceeded to rescue another man caught in the avalanche. When the rescuers got to the place, Krift was already dead.
In January 2021, an avalanche covered 10 people at the Verbier ski resort in Switzerland. One of them, a British citizen, was killed and another person was injured. The avalanche occurred outside the ski run, rescuers helped the skiers get out from under the snow.
