Dangerous scenes took place on Sunday at noon on an agricultural property in Sattledt in the Wels Land district. The 79-year-old mother, who lives on the top floor, was in the kitchen. Fat was sizzling in a pan on the stove, and the extractor fan was on.
But suddenly the landline phone rang and the pensioner left her kitchen. After a few minutes, the 79-year-old suddenly heard a “click”, as the police informed yesterday. In the meantime, the cooker hood in the kitchen had caught fire from the fat that was already burning. The senior tried to put out the flames herself, but was unsuccessful. Her screams drew the attention of the son and daughter-in-law on the first floor.
They came upstairs immediately, the 57-year-old son had a fire extinguisher with him. But the burning extractor had already caused a smoldering fire in the false ceiling. The helpers from the Sattledt volunteer fire brigade were called to help. They were able to bring the flames under control quickly, but the extent of the damage has not yet been determined, according to the police. The 79-year-old was taken to the Wels clinic by an ambulance with suspected smoke inhalation.
