It was a successful finale to a week that was rather modest in terms of weather. Because cooler temperatures and occasional rain have clouded the number of visitors: the half million guests expected at the beginning had to be revised downwards yesterday. A total of 380,000 visitors were registered.

Cloudy weather, good atmosphere
Nevertheless, this did not dampen the mood, and the number of consumption was also impressive, as market officer and city councilor Doris Lang-Mayerhofer (VP) summarized yesterday: more than 105,000 pints of beer, 38,000 lemonades, 64,000 portions of bratwurst and 3,800 portions of grilled chicken were consumed in the festival tent in the past nine days. “People love the Urfahraner market, it is a market for everyone,” said Lang-Mayerhofer.
Two visitors fell into the Danube
“The mix of rides, exhibitions, music and cuisine created the typical folk festival flair that attracts people from near and far.” The “Family Day”, the “Bruckner Day” in honor of the famous composer’s 200th birthday, the ÖH semester opening in the festival tent and the return of the wrestling heroes who fought for the Danube Cup in the exhibition ring proved to be particularly crowd-pullers.
But the traditional market also demanded emergency services. The helpers had to rescue two Urfahraner market visitors from the ice-cold Danube twice within a week. According to witness statements, on the night of Sunday last week, a 43-year-old slipped on the bank and fell into the Danube. Passers-by alerted the emergency services, who discovered the casualty around ten meters from the bank. The officers jumped into the water and brought the man to shore.
Five days later, the officials had to go to the Danube again: a drunk 18-year-old reveler fell into the water near the fairgrounds and couldn’t make it to the bank on his own. The officers also pulled him ashore, and the teenager from the Rohrbach district was then looked after by the rescue team.
