López Obrador recovered from his second contagion of Covid-19

“We’re out of contagion, it went well for us. It is demonstrable that this variant does not have the same severity as the previous one, of the Delta variant, in symptoms and also in recovery time,” said the president during his usual morning press conference.

López Obrador also said that “contagions are growing a lot in the country, but not so are hospitalizations” or deaths.

“What also helps a lot is the vaccine, getting vaccinated and not stopping the booster shot,” he said.

Last Monday, López Obrador, 68, announced that he was infected with Covid-19 and that he had mild symptoms of the disease. He was replaced during his absence by the Secretary of the Interior (interior), Adán Augusto López.

The president is vaccinated with the two doses against Covid-19 from the AstraZeneca laboratory and received a third booster on December 7.

It was the second contagion of the leftist president. The first time was on January 24 last year. At that time he was isolated for several days and was replaced by the then Secretary of the Interior (interior), Olga Sánchez Cordero.

Mexico, with 126 million inhabitants, has registered a vertiginous increase in infections in recent days with a record number of 47,113 daily cases registered last Saturday.

The government refuses to suspend activities because hospitalizations and deaths are kept under control. Mexico is one of the few countries in the world that keeps its borders open without asking travelers to present a vaccination certificate or negative tests.

Experts point out that the infections in the country would be many more than those reported by the authorities because Mexico is one of the countries that does the least testing in the world.
