Zemmour denounced an “ideological and stupid conviction” and his lawyer, Olivier Pardo, announced that his client will appeal the ruling, the AFP news agency reported.
Prosecuted on several occasions for racial insult, incitement to hatred or denial of crimes against humanity, Éric Zemmour was tried this time for his statements made on September 29, 2020, during a debate on a television program following an attack that occurred in front of the old newsroom of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, in Paris.
Zemmour affirmed, referring to unaccompanied migrant minors, that “they have nothing to do here, they are thieves, they are murderers, they have to be sent (to their country) and there is no need for them to come.”
Around thirty associations were constituted as civil parties, such as SOS Racismo, the Human Rights League (LDH) and the International League against Racism and Antisemitism (LICRA), as well as around twenty departmental councils, since unaccompanied minors are assisted by the Social Aid for Children (ASE), managed by the departments.
The controversial statements of Éric Zemmour, 63, cost him a fortnight of legal proceedings in the last decade.
