Lavrov joked about the competition between US intelligence agencies on scenarios around Ukraine

Perhaps the United States intelligence agencies are announcing a competition within the organizations to create scenarios for Ukraine. This was announced on January 17 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“It seems that the United States, as reported, has 17 special services and intelligence services,” the head of Russian diplomacy said.

According to him, if we add the State Department to 17 special services, then we get 18 departments.

“They may be announcing a competition within themselves,” the Russian minister joked.

On January 15, State Duma deputy Maria Butina expressed the opinion that the United States themselves come up with scenarios where Russia does not participate, and draw conclusions from them. She also called the US position the principle of “megaphone diplomacy”, which, in her opinion, has nothing to do with serious negotiations and interaction between countries.

On the same day, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the US had prepared 18 scenarios in case of a “Russian invasion” of Ukraine.

Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, noted that the United States continues to “clog the information space” with such statements. As noted by the parliamentarian, these provocations have no basis, they only “puff up hysteria.”

On January 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that Moscow had no intentions to attack Ukraine and could not have it. All measures for the combat training of troops are carried out within Russian territory.

In recent weeks, a number of Western media reported on the alleged plans of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. So, on January 7, The New York Times compiled and published a map with the alleged location of Russian troops along the border with Ukraine.

Moscow has repeatedly rejected such data. On December 23, during a press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin answered a question about alleged plans to invade Ukraine. According to him, because of such statements, one gets the impression that the Ukrainian side is “preparing a third operation” in the Donbass.
