In the end, the result was more than clear: with 37 out of 40 possible points from the jury, the A26 bridge was officially christened the Donautal Bridge on Wednesday. This baptism was preceded by an extensive search for a name. Around 800 readers sent 1,502 suggestions to the editorial team. A four-person jury with representatives from Asfinag, the state of Upper Austria, the city of Linz and the OÖNachrichten yesterday chose the winner from the 20 most frequently mentioned ideas.

Voting took place according to the song contest principle: each jury member ranked their top 10 from the 20 options from 1 to 10 points. The Danube Valley Bridge achieved a hat trick and received the highest score from three of the four experts. With a total of 21 points, the Römerberg Bridge (see table on the right) finished well behind in second place.
