UAE blames Houthis for tanker attack

“The Emirates reserves the right to respond to these terrorist attacks and this sinister criminal escalation,” the Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying by the official WAM news agency.

The rebels of Yemen carried out the “infamous attack” on civilian facilities in the United Arab Emirates on Monday, a senior official had said shortly before.

Three tankers exploded “near the storage tanks of ADNOC”, the Abu Dhabi oil company, killing a Pakistani and two Indians. A fire also broke out in the newly built area of Abu Dhabi International Airport.

A fire and explosion took place after Houthi rebels from Yemen announced a “major military operation” against United Arab Emirates.

The fire was caused by the explosion of three fuel tankers, and both were “probably” caused by drones, said the official WAM agency, citing the police of the Emirates capital, according to which there was also a “fire minor” near the Abu Dhabi airport.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that small flying objects, possibly drones, were detected falling in two areas and may have caused the explosion and fire,” Abu Dhabi police said in a statement.

For their part, Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced a “major military operation in the United Arab Emirates”.

“The armed forces have indicated that they will announce major military operations in the UAE in the next few hours,” military spokesman Yahya Saree tweeted.
