The latter applies to the election for Upper Austria’s Athlete of the Year, the starting signal for the 50th edition of which is being given today. The OÖNachrichten, together with the Sportland OÖ and the ORF, are looking for the best local aces of the year in three categories (women, men, teams).

Andreas Goldberger, Liu Jia, LASK, Sigrid Kirchmann and Helmut Köglberger – the names in the now magnificently long list of winners prove that whoever wins this election will forever belong to Upper Austria’s sports “Hall of Fame”. By the way, cycling veteran Ludwig Kretz and track and field athlete Karin Berghammer-Danninger, who were successful at their premiere, made the start.
