Microsoft buys Candy Crush developer Activision Blizzard

As the manufacturer of the Xbox games console announced on Tuesday morning (local time), it secured the US video game provider Activision Blizzard, which is behind the popular mobile game “Candy Crush” and other popular titles such as “Call of Duty”, “World of Warcraft” or “Overwatch”.

Microsoft is offering Activision Blizzard $95 a share, a hefty premium to the previous Friday’s US trading day’s close of $65.39. The game company is thus valued at a total of 68.7 billion dollars (60.4 billion euros), as Microsoft announced on Tuesday.

The previous head of Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick, should remain at the top of the game company, it said. Kotick had come under criticism in recent months following allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination against company managers.
