At least 11 killed in Yemen by bombings in retaliation for the attack on Abu Dhabi

The drone attack claimed by the Houthi rebels on Monday was the first operation to leave victims on Emirati territory and was harshly condemned by the United States and other Western countries.

In response, the Saudi-led coalition fighting the militias, of which the Emirates is also a part, launched bombing raids on Yemen’s capital.

“The bombing caused 11 deaths,” Akram al Ahdal, a relative of some of the victims, told AFP. “The search for more survivors in the rubble continues.”

Ahdal said the airstrikes hit two houses, leaving them in ruins.

The death toll was confirmed by a medical source in Sana’a, after the coalition multiplied retaliatory attacks on the rebel-held Yemeni capital since Monday night.

Crude prices hit seven-year highs after Monday’s attack on an oil supply center that left three dead.

In their claim, the Houthi rebels warned Emirati residents to avoid “vital facilities, for their own safety”.

The attack by rebels backed by Iran It dims hopes of ending the conflict in Yemen, which has left millions displaced in this country, which is the poorest on the Arabian Peninsula.

U.S promised that the rebels “will be held accountable” after the attack, a condemnation that was replicated by the United Kingdom, France and the European Union.

Monday’s attack came after Yemeni rebels earlier this month captured the “Rwabee“, an Emirati ship, and spread images that allegedly showed military cargo on board the ship.

The seven crew members of the boat remain captured.

The Riyadh-led coalition has supported the Yemeni government since 2015 in its fight against the rebels who have controlled Sana’a and other territories of this country since 2014, which has been devastated by a war that has left more than 377,000 dead.
