Police investigated gang of traffickers

The man is said to have brought a total of 123 people from the Austro-Hungarian border to Germany and other EU countries in the autumn of last year. He received the orders for this from an as yet unknown perpetrator.

He recruited a 47-year-old Hungarian, a 28-year-old from Linz, a 23-year-old Turkish national from Wels, a 47-year-old German, a 56-year-old from Lower Austria and a 44-year-old British citizen as drivers. The latter was caught in the act by the police in Frankfurt an der Oder in October.

The police got on the trail of the 46-year-old organizer through one of his drivers, who was reported at the end of November after an anonymous tip for smuggling. The 47-year-old Hungarian, who lives in the Perg district, made a full confession. His statements and the evaluation of his mobile phone finally led to the head of the gang, who is now in custody in the Linz prison.

The 25 towings, which the gang is accused of, took place mainly with cars and vans. Some of the vehicles were overloaded and the people being towed had to be transported in the trunk and on the loading area, the police said on Tuesday evening.
