Walter Kölberl has a lot to do. For years, the man from Salzburg has been looking after the paths up the 1,267-metre-high Gaisberg on a voluntary basis, repairing and improving and thus trying to ensure safety for all hikers. Now he’s got a new job: he has to remove stickers from all the signposts.
Opponents of the measures apparently chose a completely abstruse type of protest there at the weekend and pasted over the boards with the words “Corona dictatorship”.
The Alpenverein (AV) Salzburg now wants to file a complaint against unknown persons. “Freedom of expression is a valuable asset in a democracy, but what happened here is simply damage to property,” it said in a statement. For information about the perpetrators, overnight vouchers for one of the AV huts were offered.
