“Stop Corona” app expires

As the “Presse” reports, the Ministry of Health is ending funding. Before that, the “Zeit im Bild” had already reported on the impending end. The app was intended to promptly inform people who had come into contact with an infected person. Although prominent data protectionists such as Max Schrems supported the app designed by the Red Cross, it had an image problem in public right from the start. Recently it had become very quiet about “Stop Corona”.

“Not intended to be continued”

“A continuation is not planned from the current point of view,” says the Ministry of Health to the “press”. The reason given is that although the app made sense at the beginning of the pandemic, it was gradually used less. At the same time, other tools and familiar apps such as the Green Passport have been developed over the past two years, which have been well received, and people have also internalized well how to deal with Corona and the necessary protective measures during this period.

The Red Cross regretted the end “very much”. After all, over 17,000 people warned their contacts about the app. According to the Red Cross, it is still unclear whether the stop corona app will simply no longer work on March 1 or how it will be phased out.
