The term detox comes from the English and means something like detoxification. “But this is not, as many believe, a strict diet or fasting,” says Claudia Koch. “Quite the opposite: Detox is about supplying the body with important nutrients and thus providing maximum support for our detoxification organs such as the liver, kidneys, lungs and intestines in their work,” says the therapist from Linz, who runs an online detox course has developed. The OÖN interviewed the expert on the subject – and got a lot of good tips for detoxing.

Claudia Cook: Basically everyone, because we are all more or less exposed to pollutants. In our time it is no different – starting with the preservatives in ready meals to the bad air in the cities and microplastics in cosmetics… All these substances reduce the functionality of our detoxification organs and can lead to health problems.

What are the symptoms?

There are many signs: for example, if you are still tired in the morning and it takes forever to get going. Or if you can’t go to the toilet regularly. This also includes headaches, recurring infections, food cravings or flatulence. That’s why it’s good to give your body periods of relief.

How long does a cure like this last?

This is different. For example, people who take a lot of medication are more stressed. Age is also a factor – the older we get, the more it accumulates. Generally, a week is a good guideline for a detox, but it can be shorter. After the fourth day you usually feel that you have more vigor, more strength – and more joie de vivre.

How do you do it?

It would be ideal to do the cure when you have free time and time for yourself. Because detox also takes place inside, processes also get underway here.

Exactly, because it’s also about getting rid of harmful thoughts and negative beliefs. The more you look and come to yourself, the more comes up.
