Belarusian ambassador hospitalized in Moscow

Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko is being examined at a Moscow medical facility, his condition does not cause concern. On Tuesday, January 18, Sputnik Belarus reports on its Telegram channel, referring to the statement of the republic’s embassy in Moscow.

“Currently, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Vladimir Semashko is indeed being examined at a medical facility in Moscow. His condition is quite satisfactory and does not cause concern,” the embassy said.

Semashko will start working at the embassy in the coming days, the diplomatic mission added. They also said that he coordinates the work of employees by phone and works with documents while in the clinic.

Earlier that day, there were reports in the media that Semashko was hospitalized in a moderate condition, allegedly after a heart attack.

Semashko has been the head of the diplomatic mission of the republic in Moscow since 2018. At the same time, the ambassador is the plenipotentiary representative of Belarus to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and to the Economic Council of the CIS.

Vladimir Semashko is a graduate of the Belarusian National Technical University. After serving in the Soviet army, in 1974 he began working at the machine-building complex of the plant. F.E. Dzerzhinsky NPO “Integral” in Belarus. Semashko built a successful career, becoming the chief engineer of the complex by 1996.

In 2001-2003, the diplomat served as Minister of Energy of Belarus. Later he worked in the government as Deputy and First Deputy of the Belarusian Prime Minister.
