Probably the most successful team of brothers active in Austrian motorcycle racing, Maximilian and Andreas Kofler from Attnang-Puchheim, were recently in Spain to prepare for their respective new season on different routes. For Max, who will compete in the Supersport World Championship this year, it was the first time on the new Ducati Panigale V2, and Andi completed test kilometers on the Kawasaki that was tested last year in the International German Motorbike Road Championship (IDM).
“It was a huge transition from Moto3 to Ducati, but I had a great feeling on the new bike from the first lap,” reports Maximilian. The 21-year-old will drive the Panigale of the Italian team CM Racing in the Supersport World Championship from April. “We visited the team in Italy. The environment is really good for my first season.”
In Spain, the 32-times Moto3 World Championship starter made contact with his brother’s squad, the Kawasaki Schnock Team Motorex, which was testing in Valencia. “From my point of view, that was quite successful, and it was also great fun to be on the road together with Andreas in the training sessions,” says the older of the two Koflers. His brother Andreas, who is four years younger, adds: “We have never raced against each other with such heavy machines before.” The 17-year-old also showed fast lap times and feels ready for his second season in the IDM: “I’m happy that I can continue on the path with my team around Roman Raschle. In every session I get helpful inputs and can continue improve.”
