Colapinto had great performances in Williamswhere it has already added five points (4 in Azerbaijan and 1 in the United States), although in 2025 it will not take place in said team since months ago it was confirmed that they will have the Thai Alexander Albon and the Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr. as drivers.
This situation meant that Colapinto is not guaranteed a place in Formula 1 in 2025, although he has serious chances of reaching a team: Sauber.
This is the team with the worst results in the current season, but with great future projection since starting in 2026 it will become Audi and promises to be one of the teams fighting at the top.
During the United States Grand Prix, where Colapinto made a great comeback and finished tenth, the team boss, Mattia Binotto, announced that in “mid-November” it will be known who will be Sauber’s second driver, who will accompany the German Nico Hulkenberg in 2025.
This is why the decision is expected to be announced between the Brazilian Grand Prix (November 3) and Las Vegas (November 24). Sauber is the last team that remains to know its final formation.
In addition to Colapinto, the other options being considered at Sauber are the Finnish Valtteri Bottas (currently one of the team’s drivers), the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (leads the Formula 2 championship) and the German Mick Schumacher, son of the seven times Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher and current third Mercedes driver.
The reality is that, if he lands at Sauber by 2025, Colapinto will not have an easy time since the team did not score points this season, but he would have a good opportunity starting in 2026, when it becomes Audi.
