“With this project we are starting a lighthouse project in Upper Austria,” said Markus Achleitner, regional councilor (VP) and chairman of the supervisory board of Energie AG, yesterday at the groundbreaking ceremony.
Combining agricultural production with energy production is possible with this project. The 7,514 modules on the field are positioned so that Bachleitner can manage it almost without restriction. “This has always been a field and will remain so. The distances are exactly adapted to my machines. Oats, barley, wheat – I can still grow everything except corn, which is too high,” said Bachleitner. The farmer can cultivate 80 percent of the arable land as usual, 18 percent is used for biodiversity strips and only two percent is lost through the construction of power plants. The PV system would therefore not be in competition with food production, but would be an innovative solution for dual use of cultivated arable and grassland areas. After around 30 years, the system can be dismantled without leaving any residue.
