We consider accession to the OECD as a top priority

The chancellor was at the meeting of Ministers of the G20 Trade and Investment Group and held bilateral meetings with authorities from the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and Spain.

Foreign Minister Diana Mondino participated this Thursday in the meeting of Ministers of the G20 Trade and Investment Group held in Brasilia, where he expressed: “My country considers joining the OECD as a top priority.”

In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held in parallel a series of bilateral meetings with high authorities of the European Union, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and Spain.

Mondino highlighted the role of the G20 in creating consensus “in a world challenged by protectionism and unilateral measures,” and stated that Argentina’s position “focuses on tax reform, an open market economy, investment promotion, strengthening the rule of law, free competition and full insertion into the global economy.”

In that sense, the chancellor noted: “To consolidate our internal reform process, we have set the bar very high, and my country considers accession to the OECD as a top priority.”

On the other hand, the official criticized the “distortions suffered by the agricultural market globally” by maintaining that “the bound tariffs applied to agricultural products not only double those of industrial goods, but also non-tariff measures affect agricultural trade.”

In turn, he asserted that ““subsidies promote inefficiency and hinder our efforts toward food security.”

Along these lines, Mondino went deeper: “Trade is called upon to play an essential role in food security, environmental challenges and livelihoods, particularly in non-subsidizing countries.”

How Diana Mondino’s agenda followed

Lastly, and to close her agenda, the chancellor was present at the session on Trade and Sustainable Development in Investment Agreementswhere he called to “empower the G20 to continue exploring ways to encourage more investment and more trade, through the promotion of private initiative.”

He also spoke about the Agreement on Investment Facilitation for Developmentin which Argentina worked side by side with the other Parties to achieve its incorporation into the legal architecture of the WTO.
