What is known so far about the attack in the Mühlviertel

The subject of the ongoing investigation is whether the wanted suspected double murderer, Roland Drexler (56), “spontaneously” shot two hunters with whom he had had an argument on Monday morning or whether his bloody deeds were planned.

Witnesses in the area of ​​a foot care studio in the town of Fraunschlag first saw two men getting out of their cars in front of the business premises at around the same time. Accordingly, Drexler suddenly, without exchanging words, shot his victim, the hunter and mayor of Kirchberg ob der Donau, Franz Hofer, with a handgun.

The 64-year-old was on the way to the studio and was “apparently intercepted” by the perpetrator, informed State Criminal Police Office Chief Gottfried Mitterlehner.

The 64-year-old ran away in zigzag lines on a sloping meadow, running for his life. Drexler is said to have then taken his rifle out of his car. “Get the police!” the fleeing local boss is said to have shouted before he disappeared from the observers’ field of vision – and the pursuer fired his second shot. Drexler then drove away in his silver VW Caddy (license plate RO-231 EL). His next destination was apparently the community of Arnreit, where 64-year-old Josef H., a retired police officer and hunter, lived. The house is only a few kilometers away from the first crime scene.

The perpetrator probably had no trouble getting into the house. The front door was open and the key was inside when the first police officers arrived at around 10 a.m. Because no one answered in the house and a call to his former colleague didn’t help, a police officer went in and found the pensioner’s body. The 64-year-old was shot in his living room. As with the first victim, the head injuries were probably fatal; the autopsy results were still pending yesterday.

Drexler is “very, very dangerous,” according to the police warning. Anyone who sees him should immediately call 133 and under no circumstances contact him.
