Young gymnast leads the OÖN athlete election

Paul Schmölzer is currently working six hours a day and up to 30 a week in the gymnastics performance center in Linz’s winter harbor to prepare for the 2025 season. The 21-year-old from Schalchham near Vöcklabruck surprised everyone by winning bronze in the jumping competition at his debut in the general class at the World Cup in Varna this year, after he had already shown great results in this apparatus with 15th place at the European Championships.

In the election for Upper Austria’s Sportsman of the Year, he is currently in favor in the public vote, just ahead of Olympic swimmer Martin Espernberger at the top, while the women’s ranking is led by water ski ace Nicola Kuhn, and the team selection is led by handball champion HC Linz AG becomes.
