They inaugurated the D10S Community, together with the Maradona family

It included the start-up of a new pasture and players from the Argentine national team, champions of ’86, were present – Vasco Olarticoechea, Jorge Burruchaga and Sergio Batista – who led a soccer clinic with comments from Marcelo Benedetto, neighborhood clubs exhibiting their No. 10 shirts, the Fiorito Cultural Center Orchestra, Rayo, Piti de las Pastillas del Abuelos, La T y la M, Jorge Boido with his exhibition photographic “A plebeian D10S” and different artists who coordinated the works of participatory muralism of the project that came to light on the day that marked the 64th anniversary of the birth of the world soccer star.

Also present were the provincial legislators Adrián Santarelli and Facundo Tignanelli and the President of the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires, Florencia Saintout. The sculpture “Diego Iluminado” by Alejandro Marmo was also located. In addition, the bishop of Lomas de Zamora, Jorge Lugones, gave a blessing at the beginning of the meeting.

D10S Community has seven posts that reflect milestones of Diego’s life in Fiorito and the popular iconography around his figure: the Fiorito Cultural Center, whose Symphony Orchestra performs “The Hand of God”, the Municipal Park that bears his name, the railway station with a sculpture, Primary No. 63 which Diez attended, Primary for Adults No. 706 which is located in the place where he studied as a child, his birthplace and the pasture where he played with the team “Red Star.”

The entire day was filled with various tributes and special activities. In the morning, Otermín participated together with Micaela Ferraro, president of the Bapro Foundation, in the delivery of glasses to students of Primary School No. 63 within the framework of the “Seeing to Learn” program. Next, an event was held at the headquarters of the School for Adults No. 706, where there was music, reading of Maradona’s biography, kite-making, and the premiere of an allusive mural. Then, he passed by the station where there is now a sculpture of Diego with the ball. In the afternoon, the Mayor met with Gianinna at the Fiorito Cultural Center and immediately afterwards, with the projection of an emotional video, the D10S Community Circuit was formally inaugurated. The date concluded with the final match of the D10S Community Cup organized in conjunction with the ADIJ league that was played in the new pasture.

“Diego made us happy, he made the people happy and this is a way to give back all that he gave us, that is why I especially want to thank all the Maradonian groups for shouldering this epic feat,” said Otermín moved and thanked the massive support of the community: “El Diego unites us to make Fiorito a unique place that can welcome the world because we want to transmit his exploits to future generations. That is our gift, so Diego, from the bottom of my heart, a very happy birthday.”

Diego Maradona played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, ​​Napoli, Sevilla and Newell’s Old Boys. With the Argentine youth team he was world champion in 1979 and with the senior team he won the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, scoring two emblematic goals against England, the “goal of the century” and “the hand of D10S”, and was runner-up in Italy in 1990. As Technical Director, he was in charge of the national team from 2008 to 2010 and directed Mandiyú de Corrientes, Racing Club de Avellaneda, Al Wasl de Dubai, Al Fujairah of the United Arab Emirates, Dorados de Sinaloa and Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata. He also hosted a television program, was a commentator and always expressed himself in favor of various people’s causes, such as the defense of retirees, teachers and students.

He passed into immortality on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, due to cardiac decompensation that caused lung edema. He was watched at the Casa Rosada and 3 days of national mourning were declared. After his death, in Lomas de Zamora, the Deliberative Council approved that the former Recondo Park be renamed Diego Armando Maradona and also established to declare October 30 as Diego Armando Maradona Day in honor of his birth. On this occasion, the date and place coincided to give life to a permanent tribute that will become a popular sanctuary to remember the one who gave joy and glory to the Argentine people. “It was a tremendously exciting day in which we were all embraced by the certainty that Diego is alive. If there are so many people who remember him with love, it is because Diego is here. “Fiorito and Lomas will never forget you,” Federico Otermín concluded.
