Due to its quality and the seriousness with which the planning and implementation of this construction task is carried out, contemporary school construction in Austria enjoys a certain reputation beyond the country’s borders. People are keen to experiment, new and alternative concepts are tried out architecturally, and a long, successful tradition forms a solid foundation. This also applies to Upper Austria, where architects such as Julius Schulte (before 1930) and Karl Odorizzi (from the 1960s) created formative school buildings that drove development.

The architecture of schools has undergone repeated changes over the decades. On the one hand, this was due to changing pedagogical principles, and on the other hand, to new spatial and living qualities that were desired by the users. Recently, digitalization has added technical requirements. However, whether these influence the architecture or the space available in a new school building is largely up to the wishes of the clients responsible for the realization.
