The teenager had stayed with friends at a playground in Traiskirchen. The object exploded in the 15-year-old’s hand. A doctor who happened to be nearby provided first aid. The teenager was flown from “Christophorus 6” to the University Hospital in St. Pölten, the police reported on Thursday.
According to the statements, the 15-year-old is said to have separated from his friends and found a pyrotechnic object at the edge of the playground. The area was searched after the incident by police explosives experts and a sniffer dog. According to the broadcast, no other pyrotechnic objects or explosive devices were found.
