Nothing worked in the Gmunden area: late Thursday afternoon, a snowstorm swept across the Salzkammergut and paralyzed some traffic routes. On icy and snow-covered roads, vehicles got stuck on the B145, between Vöcklabruck and Gmunden motorists could only advance at walking pace.
There were also several rear-end collisions and traffic jams in the center of Gmunden, and the volunteer fire brigade was on duty for more than two hours. Further operations for vehicle recovery were reported from Altmünster and Vöcklabruck. The ÖAMTC advised drivers on the A1 between Vorchdorf and Sattledt to be particularly careful because of the icy road.

Two injured in accident
A serious accident in Seewalchen (Vöcklabruck district) had already claimed two injuries at noon. A 52-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district skidded in a right-hand bend on the L1276 due to the wintry road conditions. She then collided with an oncoming truck driver. The two parties involved were injured in the accident to an unspecified degree and taken to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Vöcklabruck, the police said.
Snow chains are compulsory on the B126
The helpers also had their hands full in the Mühlviertel. In Vorderweißenbach, Schönau, Klaffer, Oberneukirchen and Tragwein, vehicles went off the road and had to be rescued. An accident involving three cars resulted in several injuries on the B126 near Sonnberg in Mühlkreis. Three fire brigades were busy with the clean-up work.

On the B126 between Bad Leonfelden and the Weigetschlag border crossing, the ÖAMTC issued a special warning of snow, snow chains were mandatory for trucks over 3.5 tons. About dangerous conditions on the S10 and the B310 and B125 in the Freistadt area up to the Wullowitz border crossing were also reported.
In the Innviertel, the fire brigades had to move out to Lohnsburg am Kobernausserwald and Mehrnbach. A serious accident also occurred during sleet showers in the Wels-Land district: a car and a truck collided on the Lambach bypass, which then had to be closed for several hours.
