Zelensky responded to Biden’s words about a “minor invasion” in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday, January 20, commented on the words of American leader Joe Biden about the possibility of a “minor invasion” of the Russian Federation into Ukraine.

“We want to remind the great powers that there are no minor invasions or small nations. Just as there are no small victims and a little grief from the loss of loved ones. I say this as the president of a great power,” he wrote on his Twitter page.

On January 19, Biden acknowledged that Washington and its NATO allies have not reached a consensus on how to respond in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The American leader admitted that a “small invasion” would provoke less reaction from the West than a full-scale occupation of Ukraine, for which Moscow would have to pay a “serious price”.

According to CNN, citing a Ukrainian official, Kiev is shocked that the US president distinguishes between occupation and invasion.

On the same day, Biden threatened a “catastrophe” for Russia in the “invasion” of Ukraine. The American leader stressed that the Russian Federation is much stronger militarily in Ukraine and will win in the event of a conflict.

In turn, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Dmitry Belik, said that Biden contradicts himself in his speech about Russia, trying to drag the country into a conflict with Ukraine and promising sanctions for this.

The head of the Russian delegation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, said that accusations against Moscow of a possible attack on Ukraine are a bluff, and they are trying to provoke Russia. He noted that the Russian Federation is trying to do everything possible to prevent provocations from the Ukrainian forces on the border.

On January 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken not to replicate speculation about alleged Russian aggression in Ukraine, but to force Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements. Earlier, he noted that Kiev is obliged to comply with the Minsk agreements, it cannot have any plan B. According to him, Ukraine is under the external control of the United States.

On January 16, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia does not show military escalation against Ukraine.

Earlier, on January 14, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the United States had evidence that Russia was allegedly preparing a pretext for invading Ukraine. Kirby noted that it was about “a group of operatives who are preparing to conduct a false flag operation.”
