Lausanne tore VCA from all volleyball dreams

The Johann Pölz Hall could have become a sports monument. But nothing came of the promotion of the VCA to the quarter-finals of the CEV Challenge Cup, the Mostviertel volleyball players lost in the second leg to Lausanne UC on their own court in 0:3 sets.

As a team, the Swiss showed themselves to be much stronger than in the first leg, which they barely won 3-2. In the first set in Amstetten, the Confederates pulled away with a nine-point lead and easily finished the set at 16:25. A service series by Patryk Napiorkowski almost tipped the second set over. After a long “back and forth” the Amstettner suddenly arrived at a set ball, which they could not use as well as a second chance. Lausanne finally won 27:25. The third set was a head-to-head race until the decision phase, but the Swiss were able to use the first set and match point at the same time. After the defeat, the team began to internalize that they had achieved the greatest success in the club’s history with the round of 16. Sporting director Michael Henschke looked in good spirits to the semi-final hit in the Austria Volley Cup on Sunday evening in Graz.
