“There was definitely a lot of fire,” says operations manager Michael Gumpesberger, commander of the Asten fire department, who was called to the operation with his comrades around 11 p.m. The BMW was parked next to a parking lot in a housing estate in Asten. “We first focused on preventing the fire from spreading,” says Gumpesberger. “Unfortunately, we didn’t succeed completely; the two cars next to us were slightly damaged by the enormous radiant heat.”
