Feature film planned about attack on the US Capitol

US director and screenwriter Billy Ray announced the project, titled “J6,” on Thursday. On Twitter he linked a report from “Deadline.com”. He wanted to describe the events from the “trenches”, he told the film portal. Ray had traveled to Washington shortly after the attack and had spoken to those affected there.

Among them was police officer Michael Fanone, who had been brutally attacked by Trump supporters. US director Adam McKay, who recently released the political and catastrophe satire “Don’t Look Up”, is on board as a producer. Before that, he shot “Vice – The Second Man”, a real-life satire about hard-line politician Dick Cheney. Ray have wrote a “harrowing and terrifying” screenplay to chronicle that “agonizing day” for the cinema, McKay said.

Supporters of US President Donald Trump, who was voted out of office, stormed the seat of the US Congress on January 6 last year to prevent the confirmation of Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory. Five people died and dozens were injured. The attack on the heart of US democracy shook the country. To this day, Trump has not admitted his election defeat.

Ray is best known for writing screenplays for films such as The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips and The Richard Jewell Case. In 2020 he directed the political mini-series The Comey Rule based on the book Greater Than the office” of former FBI Director James Comey.
