In the midst of this new wave of infections, the country broke the record for daily infections for the third consecutive day, according to data provided by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German government entity in charge of infectious disease control.
The incidence of coronavirus infections in seven days, an index widely used in Germany when deciding on new restrictions, exceeded the threshold of 700 per 100,000 inhabitants for the first time in the pandemic.
With this new balance, the country reached 8.46 million positives since the start of the health emergency, while with the 170 new deaths reported today, the total number of deaths reached 116,485.
The German government last week approved the legal framework for the new quarantine rules.
Now, people who have received a booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine “will not have to quarantine in case of being in close contact with a person infected with Covid-19,” says the regulation cited by the Europa Press news agency.
On the other hand, the immunization process continues and 72% of the inoculated population has already been exceeded, so the country is approaching the objective set by the Government of reaching 80% with at least one dose by the end of January.
