Brazil’s three-time World Cup champion Pelé has been discharged from hospital after a two-day medical examination. This was announced on Thursday, January 20, by ESPN.
“Edson Arantes do Nascimento (known as Pele) was at the Albert Einstein Hospital on January 19 and 20 for further treatment of the tumor … The patient was discharged on Thursday in a stable clinical condition,” the hospital, where the athlete is undergoing planned treatment, said in a statement.
ESPN previously reported that 81-year-old Pele returned to the hospital in order to resume chemotherapy for a colon tumor.
Pele was last hospitalized for cancer treatment in early December.
At the end of August, Pele underwent a routine examination, which revealed a tumor in the intestines. On September 4, doctors performed an operation to remove the neoplasm.
The former football player throughout the entire time of hospitalization on social networks told fans about his health and joked that he was ready to return to the field soon.
On September 17, it was reported that Pele was again transferred to the intensive care unit after several days in a regular ward due to acid reflux.
On September 30, the ex-footballer was discharged from the hospital.
