Hirscher after Streif downhill: “Now I can have a say”

“I can understand downhill skiing more than ever, it’s beautiful, it’s fun, it’s really cool,” said the celebrity precursor on Friday after the end of his three-day PR stunt in favor of his self-founded ski brand. Instead of another descent on Sunday, deep snow skiing is the order of the day for the eight-time overall World Cup winner. Hirscher on his decision to venture onto the Streif: “It fell back in the spring. I was there for a visit in the summer. And then it took a relatively long time before I said: OK, I’ll do that.” In the video you can see Hirscher’s “ramble”:

… about the motives: “That I can have a say now. I drove almost everything, but logically it never happened in Kitzbühel in January.”

… about previous denials: “At the time it was denied, it really wasn’t clear whether I could do it. I had a little niggle (points to his knee) plagued me.”

… about the now completed adventure: “It was cool, especially when you don’t have to squeeze out every hundredth. If I’ve made a mistake in my career, it’s that I didn’t do too many descents. I would have won a lot fewer races , but maybe experienced a lot more stoke.”

… about comeback ambitions: “I’m not in the mood for pressure anymore, for performing. That’s nice – it’s about nothing. I can go down today and it’s great, I’m really grateful to the Kitzbühel Ski Club for the experience .”

… about its running time: “I didn’t look at it. There are certain reasons that we can’t be fast at all, we accepted them. There are good and there are quick examples.”

… about further excursions into the fast profession: “I would like to drive Beaver Creek one day.”

… about the progress of his ski brand Van Deer: “You can’t expect that we’ll win World Cup races tomorrow. But that would be the goal. We’re looking forward to that, that’s what we’re working towards.”

… about the role of father Ferdinand Hirscher: “He looks at how our skis are, how the other stuff is and what we can do better. Actually, like we’ve always done.”

… about Kitzbühel winner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde: “What he delivers this year is great. So cool, the physical effort, the power, the conviction – he really eats it up. Good skier, technically mega. With him it means it power, power, power.”
