From the tree line, level four on the five-level scale applies at the weekend, i.e. great danger. Below the tree line, the hazard still remains significant (level three). A triggering of the snowdrift packages caused by the wind is likely even with a small additional load. A relaxation is not in sight for the time being.
“A nice mountain film is enough”
If you don’t want to be dissuaded from a ski tour despite strong wind and snowfall, you are well advised to take a trip to the secured ski area, says Christoph Preimesberger, head of the Upper Austrian mountain rescue service. “If at all, then only on the tracks of the ski areas prepared for piste goers. Otherwise, a nice mountain film at home is enough,” he says.
In any case, the weather is not particularly suitable for an excursion: Very inhospitable conditions prevail on Saturday, visibility is limited by thick clouds and snowfall. A stormy north-west wind is blowing. On Sunday there will only be very short dry phases.
