Baltic States to hand over anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles to Ukraine

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will provide Ukraine with Stinger anti-aircraft missiles and Javelin anti-tank missiles. This was reported on January 21 by the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.

“Lithuania and Latvia will provide Ukraine with Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, and Estonia with Javelin anti-tank missiles. This support will strengthen the defense military forces of Ukraine,” the statement said.

It is specified that support to Ukraine “is provided after the United States allowed the transfer of American-made equipment to third countries.”

Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas expressed hope that “Ukraine will not have to use the transferred weapons.”

On January 20, it was reported that the US administration allowed the Baltic countries to supply American-made anti-tank and anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine and was going to send five Mi-17 military transport helicopters there.

The Russian Embassy called on the United States to refuse to supply weapons to Ukraine. The diplomatic mission noted that the United States should abandon plans to supply new batches of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine if they are actually committed to diplomatic efforts to resolve the intra-Ukrainian conflict.

On January 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken not to replicate speculation about alleged Russian aggression in Ukraine, but to force Kiev to comply with the Minsk agreements. Earlier, he noted that Kiev is obliged to comply with the Minsk agreements, it cannot have any plan B. According to him, Ukraine is under the external control of the United States.

In the Western media, articles have repeatedly appeared about the allegedly possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia has repeatedly rejected such data. On January 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that Moscow had no intentions to attack Ukraine and could not have it. He stressed that all measures for the combat training of troops are carried out within Russian territory.
