The 37-year-old Bosnian citizen experienced a click with consequences for the first time on June 3, 2024. He received an SMS under the name of his bank asking him to click on a link. There he should enter the user number and PIN. He received another message – this time actually from his bank. Another cell phone registered for a cell phone payment function.
Unfavorable coincidence
The timing was bad: Since the 37-year-old had only recently purchased a new cell phone, he thought nothing of it. Only after a few debits did he realize that he had become a victim of a crime and filed a report.
The search is ongoing
There are photographs of the unknown perpetrator. The Vienna public prosecutor’s office has ordered a public search. The photos can be requested by email at lpd-o-oeffentlichkeitsarbeit@polizei.gv.at.
